DCD assisted the Gardai in Blanchardstown with their Open Day. DCD put on a display of vehicles, rescue boat, ambulance and fire appliances including the green goddess. Our two HRD search dogs and our Search Command Truck. We also had the Sam Maguire Cup on display.
DCD have a new addition to our Emergency Response Vehicle Fleet, an Iveco Multi-Lift Incident Response Unit with a six wheel Polaris in the Dropbox.
Tipperary Civil Defence arranged and hosted a presentation and training session on "First Aid for dogs" for Civil Defence canine units today. The training was given by Michael O'Connor of O'Connor Julian Veterinary Practice, Cashel. Some very useful advice for those possible canine emergencies which are very possible. Thanks to all who arranged a very worthwhile training session.
DCD and Wicklow CD attended the FESSEF Black Tie Dinner in Trinity College tonight with An Taoiseach and the Lord Mayor of Dublin in attendance.

DCD with a crew from Sligo Civil Defence built the swim platform with Pontoons for the Liffey Swim this evening. Special thanks to Carlow CD for the use of their set of Pontoons.
Civil Defence had 650 Volunteers involved in the Papal Visit last Sunday between Knock and Dublin. It was a long and arduous duty for all involved including Red Cross, OMAC and St Johns. DCD had 46 vehicles involved. Special thanks to all the CD Counties that assisted Dublin and Mayo Civil Defence.
DCD had 164 Volunteers on duty today for Day 1 of the Papal visit. Special thanks to Cork West for their assistance today and we are looking forward to working with them tomorrow along with other Counties. We had 24 Heavy vehicles on HVP and 4 ambulances.
DCD Hagglund Team completed their Off Road Training with Terra Firma last Sunday.
DCD AFS are providing Fire Cover for the Horse Show in the RDS. 14 Volunteers and two Fire Trucks on duty.
A Delegation of Hangzou Administration of Work Safety paid a visit to our HQ on Tuesday morning. We had an excellent sharing of information with their Bureau Director Zheng Hongbiao and his traveling Directors.
Nutgrove DCD unit provided water from our Water Tanker for the Steam Train last Sunday. Great to assist with this special train and to see a very dusty First Officer from our Dunlaoghaire DCD unit.
DCD provided a Rescue Team to assist OMAC Medical Teams on Croagh Patrick for Reek Sunday. Two participants rescued and brought to the Aer Corp helicopter for further treatment.
Great to see the different teams working together.

On the 10th November 2017 Joe went to the doctor with a suspected ‘Tummy Bug’, the doctor examined him and found a very small lump so he was sent for an MRI. The results came back and the doctor said they found something on his right kidney, on the 4th of December Joe was admitted to St Vincent’s Hospital for a biopsy, we were given the devastating news that he had Kidney Cancer. Later that week we were told that he had ‘stage 4’ Cancer and it had spread from the Kidney to his Liver, Spine and Thyroid Glands.
On the 10th March Commander Joe Fleming lost his brave battle against this vile disease age 71.
There are far too many people, young and old fighting and dying from Cancer, so his family and friends have decided to do a Dun Laoghaire to Howth ‘Joe Fleming Memorial Walk’ on Saturday 8th September a total of 25.3 km, to raise funds for Cancer Research.
