Dublin Civil Defence recently visited THW Marburg (the German Agency for Technical Relief). THW is part of the German emergency services, providing support for public emergencies and disasters. The organization was founded in 1950 and has since grown into a modern flexible emergency service, closely mirroring many of the services provided by the Irish Civil Defence. Just like the Civil Defence THW is mostly made up of volunteers, representing 99% of all members.
Well done to DCD members on duty in the Aviva Stadium last night providing Rescue, Fire and Medical cover. Fire crews dealt with over 31 flares.
Last weekend Dublin, Kilkenny, Meath, Kildare, Galway and Tipperary took part in a multi county Swift Water Training exercise. SRT instructors gave a fantastic demonstration of Swift Water skills on the river Barrow. It was great to see counties working and training together for a common goal. A wonderful days training for all.

Dublin CD was tasked by An Garda Siochana to search the area of St. Edmundsbury Hospital in Lucan Co. Dublin
On Friday morning a party of thirty four members of Dublin CD assembled to conduct the search. Having met with the Gardai at St. Edmundsbury at 10.00hrs on Friday 16th and having discussed the requirements a command post was established and the search got under way at 10.30 hrs.
This coming Sunday, January 11th, Dublin Civil Defence will be holding a recruitment open day in our HQ at The Esplanade, Wolf Tone quay. Members from all services will be available on the day to talk about the duties and training involved with membership of the Civil Defence. Anyone with an Interest in joining the organization should attend and meet with the team.
The event kicks off at 3PM.
Dublin Civil Defence today hosted a multi agency research seminar for K9 victim recovery. Lorna Irish, PHD candidate from the university of Huddersfield’s school of applied sciences, presented her research into “Identification of Volatile Organic Chemicals that elicit a response from Trained Victim Recovery Dogs.” The event was attended by members of Án Garda Siochana, the Irish Prison service, Customs and Revenue, and the Civil Defence.
Dublin Civil Defence will open the doors to its emergency shelter tonight at 9PM in its HQ on Wolf Tone quay. The facility is opening earlier than planned as part of the government's action plan on homeless that will see 260 emergency beds online before Christmas. The shelter will be open right through the Christmas period and will be staffed by Civil Defence volunteers. The Civil Defence officer and Assistant Civil Defence officers would like to thank all of those members that have volunteered to provide cover for the shelter. We are also seeking volunteers from other Civil Defence counties with staffing the facility.
Dublin Civil Defence will be opening its homeless shelter ahead of schedule due to the current emergency situation in the capital. The Facility will be operational next friday the 12th of December and will provide accommodation for up to 20 clients.
Civil Defence Volunteers will staff the facility every night 7 days a week for the duration of its operation.
The operation this year will once again be staffed by volunteers from Dublin with other CD counties assisting.
Dublin Civil Defence was at the Aviva Stadium for the Ireland -V- Australia Rugby game on Saturday providing Fire cover, technical rescue and medical cover. Teams treated several minor casualties in what was a very successful event and a fantastic closing game to the series.

30yr, 40yr and 50yr service medals were presented to CD members. Special praise to DCD volunteers that assisted in the event and to our mini bus drivers that transported over three hundred members to and fro to the ceremony.
Dublin Civil Defence was this weekend involved in a joint missing person search operation with the Irish Coast Guard Howth unit. Teams were out over the weekend conducting shore line searches and were assisted by the K9 unit.
Early on Saturday morning the Dublin Civil Defence K9 unit’s assistance was requested by an Garda Siochana with a search on lands near Swords. This was one of 3 deployments for the K9 unit this weekend in north Dublin.
